The Refugee Welcome Network (RWN) is a partnership of HARC, Islamic Center of Hagerstown, and other houses of worship and community organizations in Washington County, Maryland. The RWN seeks to connect individuals and families newly arrived in the U.S. and Washington County to community resources, including housing, household goods, English lessons, jobs, food and clothing, and more, and support them with friendship and community as they settle in their new home.
Funding for this work is greatly needed!

Community: The RWN seeks to establish, develop, and maintain the spirit of community between families, volunteers, and community groups. Through the spirit of compassionate care, individuals will feel welcomed and, in turn, become members of the Washington County community.

Top Volunteer Needs:
- Volunteer Coordinator – Schedules and leads volunteer orientations and works to “plug in” volunteers where they are needed most. Helps Allies connect with teams and individual volunteers to assist with family needs.
- Household & Furnishings – Helps move furniture and household goods from donors to storage and from storage to the homes of refugees. Having a truck isn’t necessary, but it’s a big plus.
- Ally – Works directly with a family (or individual) to determine their needs and coordinates with the other RWN teams to ensure the needs are met. Spend time with the family, as able, getting to know them and helping them feel welcomed into our community. (New volunteers will always have a more experienced co-ally)
- Legal – be part of our new Rapid Response team, ready to help in emergency situations.
- Fundraising – In collaboration with the Finance Team, develops and enacts fundraising programs, including direct solicitation, grants and special events.
- PR & Marketing – helps share news and information with supporters and the community.
