SUMMARY:Annual Dunker Church Service
DESCRIPTION:The 52nd annual Dunker Church Service will be held on Sunday\, September 18 at 3:00 pm in the old Dunker meetinghouse on the Antietam Battlefield. This service is held each year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. The service commemorates the peace witness of the German Baptist Brethren families who worshiped there and offered their building as an improvised hospital. The speaker will be Carl Bowman\, professor of sociology at the University of Virginia and formerly Bridgewater College. He has done extensive research on the social practices of the Brethren in the 19th and 20th Centuries.  The service will be typical of the simple worship style of Anabaptists in the 1860’s with a capella four-part singing. The service is sponsored by the churches of the Mid-Atlantic Church of the Brethren District. The public is invited. (Persons are encouraged to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and wear a mask.)

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: Our work together
DESCRIPTION:HARC’s Board of Directors has been busy over the summer planning and setting goals for the coming year and beyond.  We’re excited about the work we’re doing together and have a LOT we would like to accomplish.  For September’s meeting\, we are asking ALL members to attend\, if able\, with both faith leader and lay representation\, to give YOUR input into this work and help us prioritize what’s most important\, to discern the areas where God is speaking to us most urgently.  Other community members are also encouraged to engage in this process with us. \nOur meeting will be hosted by Emmanuel United Methodist Church.  Join us for a meal and fellowship at 12:30\, with an introduction from our host with sharing about their faith tradition. Program begins at 1:00 and concludes no later than 2:30.  RSVP requested (use link below). \nPrior to the meeting\, we would appreciate if those attending would review our current “We Believe” statements with Goals and also answer a short survey that will help us better understand the needs and interests of you and your congregation. \n \nParking & Entrance:  \nThe entrance for our meeting is on the BACK of the church.  To park closest to the entrance\, take Howard St. to the alley next to the church (between Summit and Guilford)\, and park in the large lot on your left.  Enter through the back door to the church.  Entrance is accessible. \n \nMap: \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12:30 pm\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  If in-person meetings are decided to be unsafe for our members\, they will be held on Zoom.
