SUMMARY:Stories in the Round: An Evening of Joy\, Darkness and Light
DESCRIPTION:Stas Ziolkowski & Fanny Crawford Share “An Evening About Joy\, Darkness and Light” \nStas shares a triptych of stories from his youth and early days of performing. Fanny portrays her great-grandfather T.H. Barnes in his 93rd year\, as he celebrates the communities that nurtured him as a child\, with new stories about the individuals who helped make him the man he grew to be. \nNovember 28\, 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown (UUCH) at 13245 Cearfoss Pike (Rt. 58/Salem Avenue Extended\, on the right 1 mile past the Walmart Shopping Center)\nDoors open at 6:30 p.m.\nAdmission: $15 at the door ($12 in advance) \nNOTE:\n• Response to this event will help with decision-making for a full 8th season of Stories In The Round – a potential reboot – for a 2023 series. The November 28th event is a one-time only\, stand-alone storytelling session to determine if there is sufficient enthusiasm and financial support to fund a series of our favorite tellers beginning in March 2023.\n• In order to comply with seating requirements used at UUCH since the Covid pandemic (chairs placed two feet apart) we are limiting the audience to 40 people.\n• This is not a children’s program\, but mature teens over 12 may attend if accompanied by a parent.\n• For more information or advance registration\, contact Fanny Crawford (301-730-1638 or fanitsky@hotmail.com). \nLink to the website

SUMMARY:The Book of Joy - HARC's Interfaith Book Club
DESCRIPTION:January 12\, 19 & 26\, 7-8:30 pm via Zoom \nIn January\, the group will discuss “The Book of Joy” by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.  These two holy men have survived more than fifty years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Despite their hardships — or\, as they would say\, because of them — they are two of the most joyful people on the planet.  With this book they answer the question: How do we find joy in the face of life’s inevitable suffering?  This month’s book club is facilitated by Rev. SUMMARY:Vespers Service - Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:For over 100 years the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches has jointly sponsored this annual observance from January 18 – 25 as a way for all Christians to be reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). This year’s world-wide them is: “Do Good; Seek Justice” (Isaiah 1:17) \nSaint Ann Catholic Church warmly invites everyone from our local congregations to join us for a simple service of prayer & music known as “Vespers” – or Evening Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. Local ministers are invited to arrive at 4:00pm\, to vest in your tradition’s appropriate vesture\, and to please RSVP (301-733-0410 or stannchurch.com) to let us know that you will attend. \nThe service of prayer should take about 30 minutes and\, at the conclusion\, a brief tour of our sanctuary will be offered for those who may wish to remain for a few moments.

Sandy Boyer\, HARC Interfaith Coordinator.  For a Zoom link\, contact director@harc.datachievereview.xyz.  Houses of worship:  consider gathering interested members in person to join via one computer to include those who don’t use Zoom and add to the fellowship. SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: “Dialogue that Enlarges: Bridging ideological divides through a faith lens"
DESCRIPTION:What role does the faith community have in civic life? Can the faith community provide a good model for achieving constructive engagement across differences? \nAs part of The Season For Nonviolence\, HARC is offering this program — which is based on the “Better Arguments Project” framework — to encourage participants to think about the influence of faith and spirituality as they seek to engage in constructive discourse with those of differing views. It will also provide tools to decrease both verbal and physical violence and promote peace. \nConflict is a natural part of the human experience. HARC’s goal is to practice this framework with faith leaders so you can take the resource back to your congregations and community groups. For more information on the Better Arguments Project\, visit www.betterarguments.org. \nThank you to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for hosting and providing the meal.  Join us for lunch and fellowship\, sharing of our host’s faith tradition\, followed by the program. RSVP requested by Friday\, February 10 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  If in-person meetings are decided to be unsafe for our members\, they will be held on Zoom.
