SUMMARY:Self-Care Solace: Nurturing Wellness and Combating Loneliness
DESCRIPTION:This program is co-sponsored by Brook Lane and the Washington County Commission on Aging. \n\n\n\n\nThis FREE community program will share practical self-care techniques to help individuals enhance their overall well-being including combatting feelings of loneliness.  It is critical to remember self-care\, especially if you are dedicating much of your time to caring for someone else. Many people tend to isolate themselves\, more so when stressed or feeling overwhelmed.  Developing a social network and making time to connect with others is a path toward renewal. Join Michael Gipson\, LMSW\, as he shares valuable information on how to be more aware of your own needs and actions you can take to improve your well-being\, including decreasing loneliness. \n\n\n\n\nMike Gipson has many and varied life experiences that made him decide to switch careers mid-life. Mike was a successful general manager of food service concepts when he went back to school to study Psychology. Mike received his BA\, Summa Cum Laude\, in Psychology from Purdue Global University and received his Masters of Social Work from Walden University. Mike has been in the mental health field for over six years\, coming to Brook Lane in 2022. He splits his working time between community outreach at Horizon Goodwill’s Health Hub in downtown Hagerstown and providing tele-health therapy services for Brook Lane. Mike is now an Informal Care Giver for his wife\, who suffers from liver failure. He wants\, and is excited and honored\, to share his personal knowledge on the stress of care giving and the power to combat compassion fatigue and loneliness in the golden years of life with you. \nPHONE: 301-733-0331 x1228 \nEMAIL: curt.miller@brooklane.org \nCOST: Free \n\n\n\n\nRegistration Link:  Self-care Solace: Nurturing Wellness and Combating Loneliness (constantcontact.com)

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: Becoming a Healing Community with San Mar Family and Community Services
DESCRIPTION:At our December meeting\, we will explore what it means to be a “healing community” with San Mar Family and Community Services.  Guest speakers from San Mar will be Jerica Washington\, LCSW-C\, Deputy Executive Director and Director of the Jack E. Barr Center for Well-Being; and Jennifer Lewis\, LCSW-C\, Director – Treatment Foster Care. \nSan Mar Family and Community Services\, formerly San Mar Children’s Home\, operated as an orphanage then a group home for girls for many years. Following a multi-year transition process 2013-2016\, all residential programs and the San Mar School closed when the organization’s mission statement changed to “Cultivating hope and well-being in children\, families and communities.” The organization committed to becoming child centered\, family focused and community engaged and focused on upstream efforts. Their work through Bester Community of Hope\, the Jack E. Barr Center for Well-Being\, Treatment Foster Care\, and their collaborations with many other organizations all based in trauma informed practices has led Washington County in becoming a healing community. \nJoin us for lunch and fellowship.  Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren will provide the meal and share about their faith tradition.  Contributions toward the meal can be made via a free-will offering basket.  RSVP requested by Friday\, December 8 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  Some meetings will be recorded for later viewing\, as we are able and the subject allows.

\nLink to the event page.
