SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: ACEs Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) affect the mental and physical health of children into adulthood\, and are at the root of many health and social problems in our community.  ACEs are common and preventable\, and houses of worship/people of faith can play a unique role in reducing ACEs and building resilience in both children and adults. \nIn this workshop\, you’ll learn:\n~ About the landmark CDC/Kaiser Permanente ACEs epidemiological study that proved the impact of ACEs\, and a little of the neuroscience to support it\n~ Strategies to prevent ACEs and protect children against the impact of ACEs\n~ How to deal with challenging behaviors\n~ What you can do to build resilience and promote healing in children and adults \nKathy Powderly\, ACE Master Trainer\, will present an interactive workshop.  David Washington\, Peer Support Specialist with the Washington County Health Department\, will offer a follow-up program opportunity for faith leaders to take into their congregations. \nWe are excited to offer this workshop in person with Grace United Methodist Church as our host congregation.  We will also offer a Zoom option for virtual participation.  The meeting will begin at 1:00 to allow for participants to eat before they come and we expect it to go a full two hours to allow time for an effective workshop.  Please wear a mask.  Please RSVP (required for Zoom participation). \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  During COVID our meetings have been starting at 1:00 to give time for lunch prior to the meeting; when it’s safe to eat\, the start time is 12:30.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving each member congregation an opportunity to host. If in-person meetings are deemed unsafe for our members\, they are held on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Dealing with the Mental Health Effects of the Lingering COVID-19 Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:Facebook Live\nGet Directions\nPhone:\n301-733-0331 x1228\nWebsite:\nhttp://www.facebook.com/brooklaneinc\nCost:\nFREE\n\nAs the COVID-19 pandemic stretches into yet another year\, people are experiencing the related stress and anxiety that comes from this prolonged disruptance to our normal lives. Isolation\, avoiding public places\, obsessive cleaning and feeling hopeless may be signs of having a high level of anxiety. In this Brook Lane sponsored program\, Jesse Davis\, LCSW-C discusses the stress and anxiety you may be feeling as a result of the prolonged pandemic and effective ways to cope. \nJessie Davis\, LCSW-C\, is a Lead Clinician and therapist with the Brook Lane THRIVE Program at the Frederick Outpatient Office.

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: Celebrating 20 years of Interfaith work!
DESCRIPTION:In February 2022 we celebrate 20 years of HARC’s Interfaith Coalition!  The Interfaith Coalition of Washington County was formed in February 2002 with representatives from Jewish\, Muslim\, and Christian faiths to provide a forum for interfaith dialogue in our community following the tragic events of September 11\, 2001. \nThis program will highlight history\, present\, and look to the future of interfaith relations in Washington County\, Maryland. \nRev. Ed Poling will share the history of the Interfaith Coalition from his perspective as a Christian pastor. \nPaula Myers will share what the Interfaith Coalition has meant to her as a Baha’i. \nDr. Shahab Siddiqui\, one of the Interfaith Coalition founders\, will share his experience as a Muslim during this time and what the IC meant to him. \nDuring this program\, we will seek your input on: \n~ The relevancy of interfaith education/events today and what you can draw from your own interfaith experiences.\n~ How can Interfaith events continue to be a positive force in the community?  What programs and/or events interest you? \nIn anticipation of continued pandemic challenges\, the meeting will be held on Zoom and start at 1:00 to allow for participants to eat before joining in.  Please sign up to come so we know how many to expect and can send you a Zoom link. \n \n——————————————————————- \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12:30 pm\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting. When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving each member congregation an opportunity to host. If in-person meetings are deemed unsafe for our members\, they are held on Zoom.  During COVID our meetings have typically started at 1:00 to give time for lunch prior to the meeting.
