DESCRIPTION:Join us on June 14 at the Salvation Army to share a meal\, learn more about the Salvation Army’s programs\, and say farewell to Rev. Elizabeth Jackson and Captain Jimmy Taylor. \nA meal will be provided for those who are comfortable joining us for lunch indoors\, which will be held in Salvation Army’s spacious soup kitchen dining room at 12:30\, after the soup kitchen is finished for the day.  We will move to the chapel at 1:00 to hear from Captain Jimmy Taylor about the Salvation Army’s programs\, and to say a farewell to him as he moves to a Salvation Army program in Florida.  We will also give a big farewell and thanks to Rev. Elizabeth Jackson\, who has served as HARC’s president for the last two and a half years.  We celebrate her move to a chaplain residency at a hospital in York\, PA.  Following the program\, attendees are welcome to stay for a tour of the Salvation Army; there is much to see! \nParking:  There are several options for parking. All parking lots on Wise street are the Salvation Army’s and can be used as well a the lot directly across on George Street.  If needed\, further parking can be accessed on Franklin street behind the gymnasium. \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When it’s safe to eat\, the start time is 12:30; if deemed unsafe\, we will start at 1:00 to give time for lunch prior to the meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving each member congregation an opportunity to host.  If in-person meetings are decided to be unsafe for our members\, they will be held on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Annual Dunker Church Service
DESCRIPTION:The 52nd annual Dunker Church Service will be held on Sunday\, September 18 at 3:00 pm in the old Dunker meetinghouse on the Antietam Battlefield. This service is held each year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. The service commemorates the peace witness of the German Baptist Brethren families who worshiped there and offered their building as an improvised hospital. The speaker will be Carl Bowman\, professor of sociology at the University of Virginia and formerly Bridgewater College. He has done extensive research on the social practices of the Brethren in the 19th and 20th Centuries.  The service will be typical of the simple worship style of Anabaptists in the 1860’s with a capella four-part singing. The service is sponsored by the churches of the Mid-Atlantic Church of the Brethren District. The public is invited. (Persons are encouraged to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and wear a mask.)
