SUMMARY:Free Webinar - Sustaining while Disrupting
DESCRIPTION:Learn new ways to address the challenge of congregational innovation.\nMany churches today find it difficult to adjust to changing circumstances. Traditional models of leadership are not working for new and unfamiliar issues.\nFor many congregational leaders\, preserving cherished traditions while discerning God’s new thing is a challenge. Trying to innovate to address a changing context and culture can take a backseat to daily responsibilities and maintaining ongoing ministries. This webinar offers insights and practices to help leaders navigate this impasse in ways that do not become an either/or situation.\nJoin Dr. F. Douglas Powe Jr. and Dr. Lovett H. Weems Jr.\, authors of the book Sustaining While Disrupting: The Challenge of Congregational Innovation\, for this timely webinar to learn ways to help you sustain tradition while guiding fresh initiatives and addressing unfamiliar issues.\n\nRegister Now! Registration limited to 150 participants. \n\n\nPresenters\n\nRev. Dr. F. Douglas Powe Jr. is director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership and James C. Logan Professor of Evangelism (an E. Stanley Jones Professorship) and Professor of Urban Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary. \n\nDr. Lovett H. Weems Jr. is distinguished professor of church leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary and senior consultant to Wesley’s Lewis Center for Church Leadership.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Interfaith Winter Retreat - Sensing the Divine (Deadline February 19)
DESCRIPTION:In many faith traditions the physical senses were key to experiencing the Divine. The desert fathers believed our five physical senses opened a spiritual sense. The sense of sight could lead us to seeing with the eyes of love\, and hearing could lead us to listening for the still\, small voice within. At this retreat we’ll dive into the idea that the Divine is everywhere present; we only need to open our eyes and ears\, and learn to use our spiritual senses!  Facilitated by Rev. Sandy Boyer.  $50 includes morning coffee & pastries and lunch.  Flyer  Register now \nThe deadline to register is February 19 as requested by Shepherd’s Spring.

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: “Dialogue that Enlarges: Bridging ideological divides through a faith lens"
DESCRIPTION:What role does the faith community have in civic life? Can the faith community provide a good model for achieving constructive engagement across differences? \nAs part of The Season For Nonviolence\, HARC is offering this program — which is based on the “Better Arguments Project” framework — to encourage participants to think about the influence of faith and spirituality as they seek to engage in constructive discourse with those of differing views. It will also provide tools to decrease both verbal and physical violence and promote peace. \nConflict is a natural part of the human experience. HARC’s goal is to practice this framework with faith leaders so you can take the resource back to your congregations and community groups. For more information on the Better Arguments Project\, visit www.betterarguments.org. \nThank you to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for hosting and providing the meal.  Join us for lunch and fellowship\, sharing of our host’s faith tradition\, followed by the program. RSVP requested by Friday\, February 10 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  If in-person meetings are decided to be unsafe for our members\, they will be held on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Vespers Service - Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:For over 100 years the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches has jointly sponsored this annual observance from January 18 – 25 as a way for all Christians to be reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). This year’s world-wide them is: “Do Good; Seek Justice” (Isaiah 1:17) \nSaint Ann Catholic Church warmly invites everyone from our local congregations to join us for a simple service of prayer & music known as “Vespers” – or Evening Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. Local ministers are invited to arrive at 4:00pm\, to vest in your tradition’s appropriate vesture\, and to please RSVP (301-733-0410 or stannchurch.com) to let us know that you will attend. \nThe service of prayer should take about 30 minutes and\, at the conclusion\, a brief tour of our sanctuary will be offered for those who may wish to remain for a few moments.
