Our initiative offers concise reports about school board meetings\, explanations of board processes and actions\, and links to resources\, while also maintaining open channels for feedback. \nOur goal is to raise community awareness and understanding of the work of the Washington County Board of Education and Washington County Public Schools\, while encouraging community participation in shaping the future of the schools. \nJoin us for lunch and fellowship along with the presentation. Thank you to Grace United Methodist Church for hosting and providing food (a free will offering basket will be out for donations toward the meal). RSVP requested by Friday\, October 10 at noon so we can get a count for lunch and other activities. \nParking and access: \nParking is available in the lot directly across the street from the church\, and there is also street parking. DESCRIPTION:Looking back: Church Women United celebrated Human Rights Day with a dinner and program on Friday\, September 12\, 2025 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. The theme was “Help Others at all Times.” A total of 45 women and men attended the event representing 15 area churches and 10 denominations. The guest speaker was Kathy Powderly who shared about the ministry of the Hagerstown Area Religious Council. (HARC) 22 health kits were collected for distribution to homeless children in Washington County. An offering of $735 was collected for HARC. Later the CWU Executive Council decided to increase the donation to HARC to $1000! What a blessing this event was for those in attendance and to those who will benefit from their generosity! Thank you for attending in September.\nLooking ahead: Be a part of this exciting\, inspirational group of Christian women. DESCRIPTION:The Literacy Council of Washington County needs YOUR HELP!! We offer free basic education and English language learning services to interested adults. But our services are only available because of the volunteer tutors who provide them! Currently we’re in a volunteer deficit\, with about 12 students on a waiting list\, and more adults needing immediate language and literacy help by the day. You don’t need a background in education to make a difference. LCWC provides free training\, tutoring materials\, and ongoing volunteer support. DESCRIPTION:HARC members and friends are invited to participate in roundtable conversations and fellowship. We’ll tackle some questions from our own spiritual lenses and enjoy fellowship with one another. \nJoin us for lunch\, fellowship\, sharing. Otterbein UMC will provide the lunch with a free-will offering basket.  RSVP is requested by Friday\, November 7 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening or weekend meeting.  The meeting location typically rotates among different houses of faith or affiliate organizations\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  Some meetings will be recorded for later viewing\, as we are able and the subject allows.

DESCRIPTION:Click on image for full flyer.\n“Hymn Festival of the Trinity” on November 23\, 2025 at 7:00PM with a Meet and Greet reception preceding the concert at 6:00PM. In addition to John Sabine and the Saint John’s Parish Choir\, the Rev. Dr. Don Saliers will join them to comment on the hymns they are singing and to comment on what the Council of Nicaea did and how it still affects the Church today. 2025 marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. \nDon E. Saliers (born 1937)\, ordained in the United Methodist Church\, is an American pianist\, organist\, poet\, composer\, and theologian specializing in homiletics and liturgics. Saliers joined the Emory University faculty in 1974. He was the William R. Cannon Distinguished Professor of Theology and Worship at the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta\, Georgia. In addition to teaching theology and worship\, he directed the Master of Sacred Music program there. He has also taught at Notre Dame\, St. John’s University\, Vancouver School of Theology\, and Boston College. Although he retired from Candler in 2007\, Dr. Saliers returned to Candler as Theologian-in-Residence in 2015.Among the twenty-four books Saliers has written\, are several on the relationship between theology and worship practices. He also co-authored A Song to Sing\, a Life to Live with his daughter Emily Saliers\, a member of the folk-rock music duo Indigo Girls. Saliers has served as president of the North American Academy of Liturgy and the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality and has been a chaplain to the American Guild of Organists.
