SUMMARY:HARC Annual Meeting: Celebrating 75 years!
DESCRIPTION:January is HARC’s Annual Meeting and this year is extra special as we celebrate 75 years of service to the community!  This will be a joyous time to learn a little of the history of Washington County Council of Churches (dba Hagerstown Area Religious Council) and celebrate our work together.  All are welcome! \nAt this celebration meeting\, we will also: \n~ Welcome special guest Emily Keller\, Mayor of Hagerstown\n~ Welcome new\, or nearly-new\, clergy (including the new rabbi)\n~ Do a little business – vote on the 2022 budget\, vote on officers/board members\, etc. \nThis meeting has been moved to Zoom only due to the high COVID numbers in our community.  Please RSVP and we will send you a link.  Members should have already received a link by email. \nWe had also planned to honor major donor Mike Johnston & the God’s Grace Fund and honor some special volunteers at this meeting\, but will hold off until we can do this in-person. \n \n——————————————— \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12:30 pm\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  While COVID positivity rates are high\, our meetings will begin at 1:00 to give time for lunch prior to the meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving each member congregation an opportunity to host.  If in-person meetings are deemed unsafe for our members\, they are held on Zoom.

SUMMARY:From Spiritual Wounds to Healing: TAMAR 2022
DESCRIPTION:Hello Spiritual Community Leaders\, \nFor many people involved in Behavioral Health Services\, trauma (Spiritual Wounds) has shaped their experience of the world in devastating and persistent ways. Research indicates that at least two-thirds of men and almost all women who are presently or formerly incarcerated have experienced some form of trauma\, including adverse childhood experiences; emotional\, physical\, and/or sexual abuse; domestic violence; extreme poverty; and loss of friends and loved ones due to community violence. Scientific literature indicates that early exposure to trauma and violence results in changes to the brain that can severely impact behavior. It is also important to recognize that the opioid and convid-19 pandemic\, in and of itself\, can be a highly stressful and potentially traumatic experience. One way of combating the long-term impact is to assist individuals with techniques that can reduce/decrease disruptive or maladaptive behaviors. The TAMAR Curriculum is one model  that can be used in any group setting and can be led by a paraprofessional. \nIf individuals are interested in learning more about TAMAR we will be hosting an orientation on Wednesday December 22\, 2021 from 3-4 pm. Then in January we will host a 1 day training to cover the implementation and facilitation of the curriculum. \nIf you plan to attend or send a staff member please email me back the name(s) of those that will be attending the orientation. \nDavid Washington\ndavid.washington@maryland.gov

SUMMARY:2021 Habitat for Humanity Dinner Auction
DESCRIPTION:For 28 years\, supporters like you continuously help to provide affordable housing to the men\, women\, and children of Washington County through Habitat’s mission. \nLike most events\, the Dinner Auction looked a little different last year. And like most things\, it went virtual. This year we plan to hang on to a part of that but most importantly\, we are going back to tradition! We will be returning to our in-person event on November 13\, 2021. This annual fundraiser plays a key role in helping fund Habitat projects. From new home construction\, to home preservation we couldn’t make it happen if it weren’t for your support. \nLink to the web page: \nDue to the ongoing pandemic\, Habitat asks that all attendees wear a mask while up from their seats for the duration of the event. We are thankful to be able to host a live event this year and grateful for the continued support. Masks will be provided.

SUMMARY:Diwali Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Ajay Bhandari \nDiwali is India’s biggest and most important festival of the year celebrated by Hindus\, Sikhs\, Jains\, and some Buddhists. It began as a celebration associated with the final harvest before the winter\, in which people seek divine blessings. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (diya or deepa)  that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects us from spiritual darkness. SUMMARY:Welcoming the Wisdom of Autumn: A Labyrinth Walk
DESCRIPTION:As autumn more fully layers around us\, we’ll walk the labyrinth and explore the wisdom the natural world offers us in these liminal times.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nOn this day\, as we shift from daylight savings time and evening greets us earlier\, we sense the change of seasons more sharply. Autumn speaks to us of change. Those last bountiful flowers\, goldenrod and aster\, give way to seeds for winter birds. Maple and dogwood dim their bright leaves while oak clings to a robe of brown. Critters employ their enegies collecting food\, making the most of this abundant mast year of acorns and walnuts. Earth prepares our local landscape for the coming of winter and a time of rest. \nThrough the ages\, this liminal time has marked celebration and commeration. Samhain\, a holiday associated with harvesting and preparation for winter in the Celtic tradition continues today for many people. Early Christian tradition reframed these days as All Hallow’ Eve and All Saints’ Day. As we recall the teachings of our own past traditions\, we’ll also look to the living world around us to garner wisdom for these days. \nWeather permitting we’ll meet at the labyrinth and engage this ancient walking practice to quiet our minds and open our hearts. \nWe’ll start at 3:00pm – Eastern STANDARD Time – but come a little early to sign in\, set up your chair and settle in. After introductions to each other and the theme\, we’ll move into 40 minutes of silence where you’ll be invited to walk the labyrinth or wander on your own along the trails through the trees. Of course you may remain seated in silence if you so choose. After the time of silence\, we’ll come back together to share before we complete our gathering. \nBring your lawn chair\, reusable water bottle\, and your journal if you choose. Please wear your masks while coming and going. There is no charge for Church of the Wild; however we will accept donations to pay for the space at Shepherd’s Spring so remember to bring cash if you wish to contribute. \nRegister here (free) \nChurch of the Wild ~ Two Rivers is an always forming community of like-hearted souls\, meeting in the midst of and drawing inspiration from the beauty of the living earth. Our intent is to deepen our connection to the Holy by being more fully present\, open and available in each moment. We learn from the earth and trees\, the waters and sky\, and from all living beings\, human and non-human. \nYou are welcome! We welcome anyone who seeks to deepen their spirituality through time in nature. Whatever your religious tradition\, or if you have none\, Christian or otherwise\, no matter your gender identity or sexual orientation\, you are welcome here.
