SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: Salvation Army

A free will offering basket will be out for donations toward the meal and their programs. RSVP requested by Friday\, September 11 at noon so we can get a count for lunch and other activities. Please note the time change to 12:15 – 1:45.  \nParking: is in the lot across from the building on Wise Street and another lot at the corner of George and Wise. Street parking is also available. See map: \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  The location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: Networking and Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:We spend most of our monthly HARC meetings learning about important programs and initiatives in our community and finding ways the faith community can “plug in” to help\, or take information back to our houses of faith and organizations. As valuable as these programs are\, they usually leave little time for us to really get to know one another and connect on a deeper level. \nSo for our March meeting\, we decided it was time to simply share a meal together\, and enjoy fellowship among faith leaders\, affiliate leaders\, and others in our network. We hope you’ll join us to catch up with old friends and make new ones! \nJoin us for lunch\, fellowship\, and sharing of our host’s faith tradition. Thank you to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for hosting and providing our meal.  Contributions toward the meal can be made via a free-will offering basket.   RSVP requested by Friday\, March 8 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  Some meetings will be recorded for later viewing\, as we are able and the subject allows.

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: Migration Then and Now in the Jewish and Islamic Faiths
DESCRIPTION:Our June meeting will focus on migration\, past and present. We welcome Basheer Azizi\, President of the Islamic Center of Hagerstown\, to talk about the history and present reality of migration among people of Islamic faith and Rabbi Mark Perman of Congregation B’Nai Abraham to share the history and present reality of migration among Jewish people. With many immigrants seeking refuge in our country and right here in Washington County\, we’ll look at this topic through a faith lens and learn about current challenges leading to immigration\, and found within our immigration system. \nJoin us for lunch and fellowship\, followed by the program.  Lunch will be provided by our host\, Reach of Washington County\, with a free-will offering basket.  RSVP requested by Friday\, June 9 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \nDirections to Reach can be found here.  Attendees can park in any parking spot on Reach’s level.  Additional parking can be found on the other two sides of the building at Christ’s Reformed Church or the Aspiring to Serve side\, both accessed from 130/140 W. Franklin St. Any spots at Christ’s Reformed are open (walk to the back of the building to Reach from the alley)\, or any non-PSI parking spots in the lot just past the church at the Aspiring to Serve building attached (walk up a flight of stairs to Reach).\n \n————————————————————————– \nHARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch\, except July and August\, with an occasional evening meeting.  When meeting in-person\, the location typically rotates among different houses of faith\, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.  Some meetings will be recorded for later viewing\, as we are able and the subject allows.

SUMMARY:HARC Meeting: The Rise in Antisemitism
DESCRIPTION:2021 set a new high for antisemitic incidents\, with the coronavirus pandemic fueling a worldwide rise in antisemitism\, according to a report of the U.S.-based Anti-Defamation League.  While these incidents decreased in 2022 in other countries\, the ADL found that the number of antisemitic incidents in the U.S. increased by more than 35 percent in the past year\, from 2\,721 in 2021 to 3\,697 in 2022. \nIn light of this data and a concern for our Jewish brothers and sisters\, HARC will welcome a guest speaker (via Zoom) from the Anti-Defamation League for our May program to talk about the rise in antisemitism and antisemitic hate crimes\, what’s causing it\, and what people of faith can do to prevent antisemitism and other forms of hate based on faith. We will also have a time of lament and showing of solidarity with our Jewish friends in Washington County. \nWe suspect that hate crimes have increased for other groups as well\, so while this program is specifically focused on antisemitism\, we hope the information learned will be applicable to other incidences of hate in our community and country. \nJoin us for lunch and fellowship\, followed by the program.  Lunch will be provided by our host\, Congregation B’Nai Abraham with a free-will offering basket.  RSVP requested by Friday\, May 5 at noon so we can get a count for lunch. \nParking can be found on Baltimore Street or in the Library parking lot.  A few handicap accessible spaces are available in the small lot next to the synagogue.  Entrance is from the back of the parking lot\, through the gate\, and into the fellowship room at the back of the synagogue.
